The first ever Middle Distance Tri Race in Rhodes was held in April 2013. However, from 2010 to 2016, many other small distance triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon races have been organized by Apollon Triathlon Club, in an attempt to spread the culture of triathlon to people of all ages, across the island. Looking back from 2010 till now, Apollon Triathlon Club has organized more than 30 triathlon related events, including 2 full ironman distance events on South Rhodes on October 2014 and May 2015.

Foremost, we are a team of friends

What started off as a small organizing team between friends, to gauge their preparation for Ironman and Half Ironman races, the Triathlon races in Rhodes have now developed into major triathlon events of the Greek Triathlon Calendar and are gaining strong popularity amongst our international triathlete friends.

The Apollon Triathlon Club’s races are often used by local triathletes as either a stepping stone towards their foray into endurance racing or else as a pre-race testing ground in preparation for their Ironman and long distance races abroad.

Since the first Apollon Triathlon Club’s triathlon race, which took place in Afandou Beach on August 2010, the concept of Relay Teams was present, the objective behind it being the introduction of more athletes to the sport. A number of athletes undertaking a relay race in one year were often seen competing in a full triathlon race the following year. Relay Teams played a key role in increasing the popularity of triathlon throughout the years.

Ocean Lava and South Aegean Region

In 2016 Apollon Triathlon Club came into an agreement with Ocean Lava and now has the privilege to announce that it is part of the great family of Ocean Lava Planet. The objective is to organize a few key triathlon races every year, in the city centre of Rhodes. At the same time, the Region of South Aegean officially supports all Ocean Lava Rhodes races, starting with the Olympic Distance on October 2016, clearly highlighting the importance of these races for the local community.
